• Piano Class

    Piano Class I and II will be offered as an elective courses at Saugerties High School starting in September 2017.  The creation of this course is as a result of a donation to the school.  Students will learn the basics of playing the piano using the correct hand techniques, music theory, ear training, sight reading, chord chart reading, compostition and performance.

    Welcome to Piano Class!  This course is designed for new keyboard players, those who want to sharpen their keyboard skills, and those who may be interested in majoring in music in college or pursuing a musical career.  Most music educators agree that piano knowledge and skills will enhance ALL musicians.  Most colleges require piano class training for all instruments, especially for singers and music educators.

    Topics Covered: Fundamentals of music notation, musical construction and analysis, scales, modes, intervals, solfege, triads, cadences, correct keyboard technique and performance.  

    Activities: Improvisation, composition, analysis, rhythmic dictation, ear training, critical listening and performance.

    Book:  Alfred’s Group Piano for Adults- Book 1

    Materials Needed:  

    Pencils, Highlighters, 1 ½ Binder with a take home folder inside, Piano books and Solo repertoire

    Homework:  

    Students will be expected to complete all assignments according to the given due date.   

    Grading:  

    Classwork (Includes homework assignments)       25%
