We are participating in a special event at SUNY Ulster with their spring Artist-in-Residence, world renowned composer and conductor Johan de Meij.
On Tuesday 3/19/19, SH Band members will leave school after 6th period, at 12:35 to travel by school bus to Ulster. They should bring their instruments, music, pencils, water, food (optional), backpacks, etc. Attire is school clothes.
We play for Mr. de Meij from 2 to 2:50 PM. Three other HS bands will have sessions with Mr. de Meij, one each on the hour at 3, 4 and 5 PM. Dinner break is from 6 to 7, but students should head back to Quimby Theater when finished as Mr. de Meij will be working with SUNY Ulster's Wind Ensemble (Mrs. Trees and one of our students plays in that group).
There is a free concert, beginning at 7:30 PM. On that program will be 3 HS bands (Highland, New Paltz and Rondout Valley) and the SUNY Ulster Wind Ensemble. All featuring works by de Meij, some conducted by the composer.
Students, parents, and community members are welcome throughout the day to watch the master classes and the concert. All events will be held in Quimby Theater in Vanderlyn Hall, SUNY Ulster, Stone Ridge NY.
Parents may sign out their child (please sign the clipboard! Mrs. Trees will have it. If she is in rehearsal or performing, Mr. Blank will have it). Notification should be given prior that parents are picking up.
One bus is scheduled to return to SHS by 5 PM. Mrs. Bouyea will travel back with those students. The early return should have been specified on the permission slip.
A later bus will be at the SUNY campus by 8:45 PM for those leaving after the concert, chaperoned by Mrs. Trees.
Only students who turned in permission slips will be allowed to participate. Dinner will be provided by SUNY to those students staying through. A headcount was taken Friday 3/15 as well as requests for dietary considerations.
Classes will be in session nearby so guests are asked to be mindful of noise in the hallways. Food is only allowed in the cafeteria. No food or water in Quimby Theater please!
