The Saugerties Central Schol District took their classroom to the Esopus Bend Preserve for an up-close opportunity to study the forest's flora and fauna in October 2006. Students collected water samples from the Esopus Creek to check for temperature and turbidity as well as a variety of artifacts such as fallen leaves and shell shards from recently hatched turtle eggs. They also "adopted" trees, wheich they sketched, measured (circumference), and made bark rubbings of for later identification.
