Fire Prevention Week Brings Hands-On Safety Lessons to Saugerties Schools

At Grant D. Morse Elementary School, students met firefighters from the Centerville/Cedar Grove Fire District, who helped children understand that firefighters are community helpers, not someone to be afraid of.

During the visits, students toured the fire truck, explored the tools and equipment, and watched a firefighter put on full protective gear. This helped students recognize what firefighters look and sound like during an emergency.

Students were reminded to:

• Leave a building right away if there is a fire

• Call 911 once they are safe

• Have a family meeting spot outside the home—and choose one if they don’t already have one or have recently moved

The District would like to thank our local fire departments for supporting our students and helping keep our community safe. At Grant D. Morse Elementary School, the school community also provided the firefighters with a hearty breakfast as a thank you.
