Students Learn What our Government Leaders Do

They received a surprise visit from Bill Murphy, Mayor of the Village of Saugerties, and Fred Costello, Town of Saugerties Supervisor, plus a special guest, Charlie the dog. Costello shared what the town oversees, including the Highway Department, the Water Department, and why dog licenses matter. He also explained New York’s election calendar reset, which moves many local elections from odd-numbered years to even-numbered years to align with state and federal elections and encourage more people to vote. Because of this change, even though he recently campaigned and won, he will need to run again next year. Something many adults don't even know about.
