A shout-out to Lobbaka, Nowitzki, and Kamrass for their formal solos! Katie Nowitzki also showcased their conducting skills with the Concert Band, leading the performance of "March of the Belgian Paratroopers."

🎼 The Concert Band performed at NYSSMA level 3, while the Wind Ensemble took on the challenge of level 5.

Let's also celebrate our talented Grade 8 musicians who played in the Concert Band:

- Logan Latham on clarinet
- Alexis Quinlan on bassoon
- Issabella Tuccilo on trombone
- Magnolia McIntosh on percussion

For those who might not know, NYSSMA stands for the New York State School Music Association. Their festivals, except for All-State, are evaluations rather than competitions, allowing students to compete with themselves year after year to improve their musical skills.

Superintendent Dan Erceg sits with a student to talk about stuttering.

Saugerties Central School District Superintendent Dr. Daniel Erceg recently took a break from his daily responsibilities to visit with a group of the District’s elementary school students who meet regularly to talk about stuttering. The request came from speech pathologists Kelsa Shanley and Kathryn Mendoza who believed the students would benefit from hearing firsthand from someone in a leadership role who also experiences stuttering—someone real, not just a celebrity. Without hesitation, Dr. Erceg agreed.

On May 20, Saugerties held its fourth Superintendent’s Conference Day of the year at the High School campus. The day focused on how staff can empower students to help create the ultimate Sawyer experience.

Student government representatives from all three elementary schools recently traveled to Albany for a special visit to the State Capitol — and thanks to some great timing, the day turned out to be even more exciting than planned!
