Students welcomed Faith Shultz, an Ulster County 4-H Educator, who visited the classroom as part of the Dairy in the Classroom Program, an interactive educational initiative through Cornell Cooperative Extension that brings dairy farming, nutrition, and science lessons directly to students.

Working in teams, students measured ingredients, combined them in bags, and then shook them with ice and rock salt. The rock salt lowered the freezing point of the ice, creating the super-cold temperatures needed to turn the ingredients into delicious homemade ice cream.

The fun didn't stop there. Students also put their creativity and entrepreneurship skills to work by developing and pitching their own unique ice cream shop concepts to their classmates. The winning team earned a color-changing ice cream scoop for their innovative business idea.
