Saugerties High School Art Students Connect with Local Artists

One of the artists welcoming students into her studio is Anne Leith, a well-known local landscape painter. During their visit, students had the opportunity to create their own artwork both inside the studio and outdoors in the courtyard. Anne encourages students to experiment with different mediums and to think deeply about one of the most important steps in making art — beginning with a blank page and deciding where to start.

Teachers Amy Hayes, along with her Drawing and Painting students, and Jodi Adams-Hill with her Advanced Art students, are participating in this ongoing collaboration. This partnership not only helps students grow as artists but also strengthens the connection between Saugerties High School and the vibrant local arts community.

Through a partnership between the SHS Art Department and the Saugerties Arts Commission, students are exploring how art is created and discovering new ways to express themselves.
