Student Honored with Sawyers Soar Certificate for Volunteering his Skills

I decided to help because I like helping people, especially when I know I can make things easier for them. I understand how hard it can be when you don’t speak the language, and I didn’t want families to feel confused or stressed during such a special event. My parents have always taught me the importance of being kind, respectful, and to help others whenever possible, and I try to live by those values.

When I received the certificate at the Board of Education meeting, I felt very proud and grateful but really nervous at the same time. I wasn’t expecting to be recognized, so it meant a lot to me. It felt good knowing that what I did made a difference and that people noticed the effort I put into helping others. The experience motivated me to continue doing good things because there’s nothing better than good karma.

I was recently recognized at a Board of Education meeting with a Sawyers Soar certificate for volunteering my time at a community event, the Sawyer Toy Express. I helped Hispanic families by translating for them from English to Spanish. I helped parents understand how the event worked and made sure they were able to choose the right toys for their children. I wanted families to feel comfortable and supported, and I did my best to make sure their kids left happy and excited for Christmas.
